Job Summary:
The Assistant ADA Coordinator assists the ADA Coordinator with the handling of incoming reasonable accommodation requests from staff and faculty. This individual conducts a thorough and timely analysis of requests for reasonable accommodations from staff and faculty; serves as a resource person regarding the University’s Reasonable Accommodations Policy and Policy on Institutional Equity as it applies to discrimination and harassment based on disability; and collaborates with campus offices and partners to address requests.

The Office of Equity endeavors to create a culture of access, belonging and accountability for all Northwestern community members. The Office of Equity’s work includes: supporting those impacted by discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct; complaint resolution; reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities and pregnant community members; affirmative action planning; and training initiatives. The Office has a strong team that works collaboratively to address community needs and implement proactive measures.

Specific Responsibilities:

Collaborate and consult with the ADA Coordinator to review and process incoming reasonable accommodation requests, ensuring a prompt, thorough, and equitable response to each request.
Communicate with the individual requesting the accommodation, the individual’s supervisor, the individual’s medical provider, and other necessary parties (e.g. the Office of Human Resources).
In consultation with the ADA Coordinator, determine whether the accommodation requested (or an alternative accommodation) should be granted.
Ensure a well-documented process by maintaining accurate and thorough records and notes of the accommodation processes, including keeping updated case records in Maxient.
Compose accommodation determination letters that clearly identify the analysis and outcome.
Assess and address issues regarding digital and physical accessibility, including consultation with other necessary parties as needed (e.g. Facilities, IT, AccessibleNU) 
Assist the ADA Coordinator with developing and maintaining written materials and other informational pieces regarding the ADA, Section 504, and University policies related to disability.
Design and provide presentations to staff and faculty on the reasonable accommodation process.
Serve on related committees and panels as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or University leading to a bachelor’s degree or higher;
Minimum of three years full-time professional experience in a related field;
In-depth knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and best practices with regard to equal employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities;
Experience administering reasonable accommodations;
Ability to act independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment;
Ability to efficiently manage a caseload of multiple reasonable accommodation requests, prepared concise and cogent written analysis of accommodation requests, and make recommendations for administrative action;
Excellent oral and written communication skills across a variety of constituent groups;
Strong attention to accuracy and detail;
Effective project management, organization and analytical skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate confidential and difficult/sensitive information;
High degree of ethical professionalism regarding decision making and confidentiality;
Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the University; and
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as well as the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, and administrators) with diplomacy and tact.
